At the end of the course the student must:
- understand the fundamental nodes of thought development, including its historical dimensions, and links between the methods of knowledge specific of mathematics and experimental sciences and those specific of the humanistic inquiry;
- understand the relationship between scientific thought and philosophical reflection;
- understand the supporting structures of the argumentative and demonstrative processes of Mathematics, to include the mastery of logical-formal language; use them in identifying and solving various kinds of problems;
- know how to use calculation and representation tools for modeling and solution of math problems;
- have achieved a secure knowledge of the fundamental contents of the physical and natural sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, Astronomy) and, through the systematic use of the lab, mastering the specific languages and methods of investigation specific of the experimental sciences;
- be aware of the reasons that have produced scientific and technological development over time, in relation to the needs and questions of knowledge in the various contexts, with critical attention to the technical-applicative and ethical dimensions of the scientific achievements, especially the more recent ones;
- know how to capture the potentialities of applications of scientific results in everyday life.
